| Subject: And a drift car is born. Sun Sep 02, 2012 4:15 pm | |
| It was a warm summers night as I traveled home in my old Volvo 850R, On my way back from a drift event at Knock Hill race circuit and that is where the story begins. I was cruising down the motor way listening to some Mt' Eden Dubstep when out of no where a beautiful Ichigo came flying past me, So I put the pedal to the metal and laid some rubber on the ground in an attempt to catch up with the beast and get a closer look at it. Around 5 minutes had past and all I could see were a set of bright red headlights and thought to myself this must be it. When I finaly caught up too it all I could see was a big thick white layer of smoke pouring out the bonnet, So I pulled up beside it and looked for the driver but he was no where to be seen. I figured he went to look for the emergency road side phones -that were put in place a few years ago- to call for help, So I hopped back in the Volvo and went up the road to look for him, about half a mile up the road I found him and pulled over " Is that your S15 at the side of the road back there " I asked "Yeh" he replied "The engine just blew up, I was pushing her way to hard" I offered him a tow back to my garage so we could see exactly what is wrong with it he obliged and then we set off to get the S15. The next morning I picked him up from his house and took him to the garage. We had a look under the bonnet to see if it was fixable, but it wasn't. I asked him what he was going to do, he just shook his head in disapointment and said "I'll have to sell it, I can't afford to rebuild the engine and I don't want to go back to an SR20. I asked him if he had the original SR20 from it, he did. My eyes lit up like the 4th of July, I had always wanted an S15 I just couldn't afford to import one over from Japan. I decided to make him a deal, £10,000 and the blown 2JZ inside it. He glanced at me for a second then looked at the car, closed the bonnet and said "Deal" We got in the Volvo and headed to my house to get the money, I never trusted banks. I got the money gave it to him and then drove him home. I decided I needed to sell the Volvo too get some extra cash for the Ichigo So i stuck it in the local classifieds and awaited a response. **Part 2** First half of Part 2: It had been around 1-2 Weeks since I posted an Advertisment in the local classifieds before I had gotten any serious offers for the Volvo, I was staring to lose hope I thought it was a sign from the car gods but then the phone rang... It was for the Volvo the guy asked how much, I told him Nine grand and he bit my hand off " Would you like to come view it before you make your decision " I asked " No I don't need to all I want is the Shell and the engine " he replied. We arranged where we would meet and that was it, the Volvo.. my pride and joy was gone, all those memories, going to festivals with friends getting lost and just driving and driving until we eventualy found where we were. It had been in the family for nearly my whole life. I remember the day we got it I was nine years old, my dad took me with him on a 2 hour drive to get it, he had always taken me when he got news cars It was like a tradition. The sky was a beautiful clear blue, the sun glazing the road as we cruised up the motor way in our pristine Audi 80 Quattro. I could even remeber the song playing in the car as we pulled up to this grotty little garage in the West of scotland it was Kasabian - Fire. We got out the car and looked around, and there it was sitting right at the front of the lot.. I could still hear the radio from the Audi playing " Im on fireee " It was from that point on I knew that one day this beast that lay infront of me would be mine. It just didn't feel right selling her but I had to, it was for all the right reasons I was moving on to bigger things in life and I could ask anymore of her, she was has been a work trojan all her life and It was time I gave her the retirement she deserved. The guy who bought it was quite old he only need it to take his dogs to the park and for when he had his grand children, I left him my number and told him if he ever thinks about selling it to give me a ring. A few days had gone by as I waited on the SR20 Motor to be delivered, I had nearly everything I needed to get the car up and running except the motor and the new Exhaust system. I had it all planned out the car wasn't staying road legal for long, as soon as I had all my parts fitted this would no longer be an Ichigo it would be a Daikaiju Ichigo. If I worked my ass off 24/7 it would be ready just in time for me to get my BDC Semi Pro licence which is being held at Lyden Hill on the 3rd of November, I had my work cut out for me but I knew with the help of the guys at Garage Zero that we could do it.
