Smooth, what is the deal on parts bought in FM4 and being moved to Horizon?

oh boy. I guess I am stuck with my shit garage for the rest of my life. also no point selling my miata stock, because then I will be stuck with all the parts that I cant use on another car.

No leeway on this Smooth? Because I still propose this:

retro hoonage wrote:
One thing I thought of was how Kaido Battle (Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 in the US) classified engine parts
R Engine (Rotary duh)
V Engine (V6, V8, etc.)
H Engine (Boxer motors, Subaru, Porsche, etc..)
I Engine (I4, I6, etc..)

What if we just said that any engine and turbo related parts can only be exchanged between the same engine family? And only limit the following parts to specific engine families:
Intake Manifold
Camshaft/Rotors
Valves
Displacement
Pistons & Compression
Turbo/Supercharger

Cracks down on "All the parts on all the cars!" but still has some leeway for re-using used parts.

Family or universal parts seem legit.
Universal parts like bolt on turbos, suspension and intake cones etc.

Family parts like stuff for the Toyota's etc.

I don't really mind though, I kind of like this, it's more realistic.

But seriously, please add the things like bumpers prizes etc to the list. That should be like 5 minutes work for you ;]

PostSubject: Re: Frequently Asked Questions   Wed Nov 14, 2012 6:07 pm

I get that its more realistic, but it pretty much discourages using different cars. No one is going to try anything new, or drive anything different.

Take for instance Car A. People wont want to buy Car A, because there's no used parts market whatsoever for it. It would be a different car, and probably not a bad car once built. But say you want to change cars later. Good luck selling the car, since it will do you no good to keep the parts and sell only the car, you have to sell it all at once at (likely) a monumental loss. If anyone will even buy it.

Story of my BNB Life. Now. I understood that I was probably going to be stuck with most of my fleet. I bought the cars because I wanted to race something that wasn't the same old shit as everyone elses. But now Im stuck with all the parts being completely useless on everything except said cars.

You can attempt to make BNB as real as you want, but the market here used or new is nowhere near realistic and never will be based on supply and demand. There is nothing you can do that will ever change or improve that. There probably arent even 100 active people on here. Now the only people that will ever be able to get rid of any of their one-car-use parts have 240's, Silvias, AE86's etc...

So maybe this is just me bitching because of the corner I backed myself into. Maybe someone might agree? Whatever.

Retro, I completely agree with you.

We can make some aspects real and leave some as they are. Like Retro said, there aren't even that many active people here. So I honestly don't see the need for restricting parts to the same car.

I've never sold a car fully built, and if I have it's at a massive loss as to what I wanted for it. I say you look at Retro's idea. It's a damn good one!

I think having a thread asking what parts are swapable to different cars and building a list in the OP would be best. I understand there are plenty of universal parts so I don't want to limit that but I also don't want to put Ae86 pistons in a Honda Civic for example.

No feedback on the engine family parts sharing? Obviously I am all for it. This is all just my opinion though.

Engine and turbo related parts can only be exchanged between the same engine family
R Engine (Rotary duh)
V Engine (V6, V8, etc.)
H Engine (Boxer motors, Subaru, Porsche, etc..)
I Engine (I4, I6, etc..)

Following parts specific to engine families
Intake Manifold
Camshaft/Rotors
Valves
Displacement
Pistons & Compression
Turbo/Supercharger

Certain parts should be swappable between all cars
Brakes
Exhausts
Swaybars
Fuel System Upgrades
Spark Plugs
Clutch
Flywheel
Rims
Tires

Certain Parts should swappable to the same car only
Transmission
Driveshaft
Diff
Suspension
Reinforcement/Roll Cage
Weight Reduction
Aero Parts

why wud turbos be specific to engine type, understand superchargers be specific but not turbos

turbos are more specific to the exhaust rather than how th cylinders are placed.

I think we should work with this idea, it's easy to follow yet realistic at the same time.

Smooth, could you add the prices of bumpers and rims into the scheme?
Or give someone else access so someone else can.. It will be so much easier for us.

rim prices can be looked up on

I am not sure but I think aero parts prices might vary from car to car. Same deal with the motor swaps. also iTonehh pointed out although he can technically check motor swap prices on Horizon, because its a fresh profile, he has no money to buy very many cars to check swap prices. So that's a problem.

I suggest for Horizon we use FM4 motor swap prices (easy to check), and just come up with agreed prices for the new Horizon swaps.

Its only the rule when you make it so.

I would even be down for restricting use of some engine parts even more. Such as:

Intake Manifold, Camshaft/Rotors, Turbo/Supercharger

Have to stay with the same engine family AND size. Parts purchased on a V6, wont work for a V8. I4 parts must stay with I4 engines. and so on.

And Displacement upgrades would be a 1 time upgrade, has to stay with the car it was purchased for, cannot be sold or applied to any other car.

Yep, that displacement issue was something I felt was pretty unrealistic before.
I'm 100% down with what retro suggested.

Also, thanks for cleaning my garage. Smooth ;]

PostSubject: Re: Frequently Asked Questions   Thu Nov 15, 2012 4:45 pm

maybe I still read you wrong. lol. but I updated the list to reflect what I just mentioned. Like Impulse mentioned, some of the parts in the last category, exceptions can be made, like the suspension working for all the various silvias and what not. Thats where we will just have to continue to document compatibility.

Engine related parts can only be exchanged between the same engine family
R Engine (Rotary duh)
V Engine (V6, V8, etc.)
H Engine (Boxer motors, Subaru, Porsche, etc..)
I Engine (I4, I6, etc..)

Following parts specific to engine families
Air Intake
Intake Manifold*
Camshaft/Rotors*
Valves
Displacement**
Pistons & Compression
Turbo/Supercharger*

* - Parts compatible with the same SIZE engine only. V6 parts only fit V6 engines, etc...
** - Displacement is a 1 time upgrade only compatible with the car it is originally purchased for. Cannot be sold or put on any other vehicle.

Parts compatible with ALL cars
Brakes
Exhausts
Swaybars
Carburetors
Fuel System Upgrades
Spark Plugs
Clutch
Flywheel
Rims
Tires

Parts compatible with the SAME CAR only
Transmission
Driveshaft
Diff
Suspension
Reinforcement/Roll Cage
Weight Reduction
Aero Parts

I dont believe the S15 was a unicorn car in Forza 3. According to the link below the car is worth $250,000.
