Bring me the Horizon: Part six, A new love

It was finally time to take the next step.
After a long time in Japan, working for Nismo and racing to earn some extra money, it was time to broaden my Horizon.
My cute hotel owner told me about a huge racing festival in America, she and I raced a few times and she was confident I could make name for myself in the United States of America. Man, I was excited! This seemed like an ideal opportunity for me to grow as a racer, get more renown and maybe even get some sponsors!
That night she came into my room, she seemed a bit sad.. I asked her what was wrong but she didn't say anything, she just walked toward me and cuddled up next to me. That night we spent together.

When I woke up she was gone.

I was a bit confused on what actually happened last night.. She and I talked a lot but that was it..
I took a shower and got dressed, today was the day I would leave Japan! I went downstairs and there I saw my hotel owner. She blushed at the sight of me and gave me a meal for underway. She didn't say anything so I thanked her and went my own way. When I stood in the door she said: "Bring back the crown, I will miss you". I promised her I will and gave her a kiss. It felt weird, but good.

My brand new M3 was filled up and waiting in the rising sun. I drove to the Nagoya air port from where we would fly to Colorado. I was excited, this would be an entirely new chapter for me.

After a long day of flying, I finally arrived in Colorado.
My M3 waited for me and I picked her up. I was sleepy but too excited to sleep, I decided to drive to the festival and find a place to sleep there.

I couldn't believe my eyes..

./ End of part one, Arrival

The next day I decided to find me some action around the festival.
The Horizon Pulse radio dj kept talking about how much cash there is to win in the illegal street races. I had saved up but I was pretty confident I could win from these chumps, in Japan the competition was stiff which gave me a lot of experience. I was sure I could handle these festival racers.
With me being a Touge racer at heart, I asked a local if there was some action on the winding mountain roads of Colorado. He told me to check out Red Rock and advised me to be careful, these street racers had only one thing in mind and that is to win. I told him I had quite some experience and came here for the crown. He wished me luck and we went our separate ways.

After an hour of driving I arrived at what seemed to be a street racing hub. At the first glance I knew that there was a lot of money going on here.. I saw Rufs, Mercedeses, Nissan R35s and a lot of other high powered cars. Some guy came up to me, asking me what I was doing here. I answered that I was looking for some races because I needed money. The guy, some macho looking steroid a-hole, straight up laughed at me. He was driving a Shelby GT500 with a bull-bar, looking like a rat rod. Nothing to fear from him, I thought.

He said:"Fine, race me! Red Rock descent, your M3 versus my Shelby GT500. Are you ready to lose everything you worked so hard for?" He smiled like a loonie with a crazy twitch in his eye.

I kept my cool and accepted his challenge. From experience I knew his Mustang was too heavy for the Touge, I had already prepared my M3 by strengthening the chassis with a roll cage and shredding her of all access weight.

We rolled up to the starting line and I was focused, feeling good, feeling confident.
He turned his head towards me and grinned:"Farewell, rookie. You're in for a surprise."

We started side by side, the road was wide enough for this kind of Touge.
The girl dropped her bra and we were off! As I expected, the Mustang was faster on the straights, but that didn't let me down. I was built for this, I can do this. I overtook him in the third corner, braking late and going through the inside. I thought this was some easy money, I laughed. But I found out I laughed too soon.. The bottom portion of the canyon had quite a few straights and a civilian car made me brake earlier and step off my line, he quickly closed in. Just two more corners to go, come on Tim, you GOT this!
I braked early so I could accelerate early. I checked my rear view mirror to see where the Shelby was at and saw he didn't brake! I braced myself and he rammed me straight through the barrier! I grabbed my steering wheel as hard as I could, trying to stay in place as much as I could! The car flipped maybe three, four, five times.. I don't remember..

Everything turned to black..

./ End of part one, Downfall

"He's opening his eyes, doctor! He's waking up, he's coming by! Doctor!"

My eyes are open.
It is dark. Everything is still blurry. Where am I? What happened?
While I slowly regained consciousness I tried to figure out what the last thing I remembered was..
I couldn't.

There were people talking in my room, I tried to listen but it was hard to focus.
After a while my senses became stronger, I could almost see clearly and I could hear.
I still didn't know where I was so I decided I'd try and ask the people in my room.

"W-where am I? What happened?"

The nurse explained to me what happened, I was racing downhill Red Rock and lost control of my car.
The guy I was racing was fine, thankfully. Thoughts slowly came to me, about where I was, my past, my name and most importantly, the race. She told me I was very lucky, there was nothing left of the car. From what I heard from her story it seemed that the roll cage saved me.

Her story rose so many questions, is Emma reparable? Did I really crash? It all seemed just so unlikely.
I had never crashed a vehicle in my entire life, not on the Touge.. And this was a wide one at that, I drove much more dangerous ones back in Japan.

"I didn't crash. It can't be."
"I'm sorry, sir.." The nurse responded.

She continued to explain how lucky I was that I survived with only a concussion.
I realized something like that because the room was dark and I couldn't remember jack shit, not even my own name..
My head hurts as I try to remember more details, when I realize she said my car was destroyed. I panicked.
She was my life, I came here to take the crown home with her..

After spending three more days in the hospital recovering, I was let go.
But where to? I didn't have anything here.. Not even a car.
As I walked out of the hospital, opening a letter, I received a shock..
I didn't have insurance.. Hell, I didn't even had a license plate on my M3 yet..
It dawned on me that with the addition of the hospital fee, I hardly had any money left.
My phone had ran out of batteries so I couldn't really call someone.
I vaguely remembered that a friend came to Horizon as well, but I couldn't really pinpoint my thoughts.

I went to a bank to check my balance, figuring out what my next move was going to be.
My balance was something along the lines of $25,000, I had to find a job and a cheap car, a cheap apartment..
That same day I found an apartment and started renting it, it was not that I had something to lose and I couldn't afford an expensive hotel anymore..

This was a shitty begin..

./ End of part three, Resurrection

Even though I made the choice of renting the apartment quite boldly, I did enjoy it.
It was not much but I had something. The hospital drove me crazy, I couldn't focus there.
With the concussion on the rebound I needed a silent place to think and this apartment was perfect. A place for my own, alone. Actually, it was pretty lonely..
That's right! I remembered! My friend Louis was coming to Colorado! I was supposed to pick him up from the airport but unfortunately I crashed my car during a Touge.. I still don't believe it, it just doesn't seem right.

I hopped on the bus to Carson, time to pick up a new phone. Unfortunately my old phone kind of died during the crash, thankfully the phone's card remained intact. I decided I would buy the iPhone again, it always served me well and I got used to it. We made the deal and I went home.

The phone opened on the side and I put my old simcard in the holder. After a few minutes the phone was ready to go. "Damn.." A lot of people tried to call me, they probably saw what happened on the news and recognized my car.. I felt kind of sorry for them, I felt like a letdown.
There it is, I found Louis number. We talked briefly and I invited him over.

It was good to see a friendly face, he had arrived a few days ago and said he was looking for me, he saw me on the news as well. I apologized, told him I wasn't sure what happened but that the nurse said I crashed during racing. He knew how I raced and told me that he drove up to the canyon where it all happened. He said that judging by the with and sharpness of the corner it was highly unlikely that I'd crashed there. He also told me that the Shelby fled the scene, he didn't even stop to look how I was doing..

This all seemed so weird..

My head hurts from all the new information and we decided to talk further later.
I felt like lying down so I did as soon as Louis left, I was really happy to have a friend in Colorado, especially after what happened. I didn't want to pull him into this too much though, he was here for the festival and I felt like I would slow him down. My thoughts slowly drifted away and my eyes were closing, tomorrow I would devise a plan of action. Perhaps look for a job or a car, I was still unsure if I should stay here.

My eyes were closed, and I dozed off.

./ End of part four, A friendly visit

As I wake up, take a shower and make some breakfast I realize that I'm starting to really enjoy this place. The apartment is great, it's calm and spacious enough for me. It even has its own parking space where I could work on a car, if I had one. That made me think, the last week I haven't driven at all and I really missed it. Unfortunately with my current budget I could not really afford a car. With the long Colorado drives, the rising petrol prices and the sets of tires I burn through I thought it was smart to have an income before I even start on a car.

As I open my curtains and look into the beautiful Colorado scenery I get an idea. With the Horizon festival going on strong and exotic cars in abundance, I figured a job as a photographer would do me good. My feeling said it was a good idea but I figured I should ask around if there's interest. I decided to call some of the Horizon promoters, a girl named Alice told me that there weren't a lot of photographers at the festival. I thought this was very weird but thankfully very fortunate for me.

I went off to Carson to buy a camera and a laptop, whilst being a lot of money it was necessary for now. On my ride back home I was feeling happy and confident. I couldn't wait to start my first assignment!

The bus doors open and my phone rings, I answer it as I hop out of the bus. It was Louis, he told me he might have a job for me in a garage! He told me to come over as soon as possible so I dropped off my new camera and laptop and started waiting for the bus again. Thankfully it wasn't that far, I still wasn't fully recovered so long days weren't really my favorite..

After a half hour drive I arrived at what seemed the place, it looked nice. An old man walks up to me and asks if I'm TRK. I answer that he can call me Tim if he wants. He says to follow me inside to test me. As I walk into the workshop I see a beautiful Toyota AE86 Levin standing on a bridge with the hood popped. The old geezer lowers the car and tells me to fix it. Unsure of what was wrong with the car I start to run random test that I did on my old Trueno. The old man is watching me work on the car, not saying anything. Damn, I loved working on this engine again! After a few minutes I found the problem and fixed it. The old man nodded and told me I'm hired, I thanked him and told him if I could go home. My head still hurt a little bit but I just needed rest.

On the bus ride home I just couldn't get the Levin out of my mind..

./ End of part five, Working class

Today was my first official day of work! I felt psyched, the boss seemed really nice, I got to work with my friend and the garage looked great! I popped in my earplugs, play 'Video Tapez' by AmpLive and walk out of my door. As I walk to the bus stop the piano plays and the beat kicks in, I breathe in and feel the warm Colorado air on my skin. Today was a good day, I was sure of it.

The bus doors open and I hop out, I was early. No one was at the garage yet. I continue listening to music as I wait, thankfully it wasn't cold so I didn't mind waiting at all. After about 5 minutes I hear an amazing sound. I knew what it was because I had owned one when I still lived in Japan. It was a two liter VTEC which gave me goosebumps. Louis arrived at the garage in his gorgeous red Honda S2000 and revved the engine a few times. He gets out and we shake hands.

"Amazing car, man!"
He thanks me and shows me around it. I tell him I used to own one as well and said it had a lot of potential. After a while of talking I ask him how late we should go pick up the car, he still didn't know which one I was going to get because I kept it a secret for him. He told me we should ask the bossman first.

The old geezer opens the door and we go in, he welcomes us with a hug. I thought by myself that this has to be the most relaxed boss I ever had! He told us he had one $1,000 in the lottery today so he would let us go early as a reward. We thank him and after he showed me the ropes we work on a few cars. I had the pleasure of working on a Nissan Skyline R34 which needed an oil change and new tires. Easy.

After three hours of work we're let go, we hug our boss and go on our way.

"Where to?" Louis asks.
"Let's go to Redfoot Ranch."
We drive to Redfoot Ranch and we talk about Louis' S2k. The car feels amazing, it really sticks to the ground. He had just installed new springs and WedsSport TC 105 N's. I compliment him on the settings of the suspension and after a short 20 minutes we arrive at Redfoot.

"It should be around here."
Louis stops at a farm and we get out.
"The car is around the back, I assume that's why you two are here?" we hear from our left.
I answer that I e-mailed about buying a car.
The guy, an old farmer, says to follow him to his shed.
I whisper to Louis that this is how we die.
The farmer talks about the car a bit, it belonged to his son but he had hit a tree. I already knew this because it was said in the advert. He said the son had cut the springs and put in a custom 2-way differential. The old farmer didn't know what brand so I had to find that out later..

"Here she is!"
We walk around the car and it looked alright!
Louis starts laughing and says that he should've known.
I smile. Of course I'm buying another Hachi, they served me well all my life.
The car looks great other than the front but thankfully it's nothing I can't fix.
The man asked $4,000 for it, I offered $2,000. We decided on $3,000.
We shake hands and he gives me the key.

Louis and I talk some more about the car and we decide to go home, I had some important things to do for my photography business and I didn't want to take up too much of his time. I thank him for driving me here and we say our goodbyes. We hop into our cars and I give her some throttle, oh how I missed the sound of this car. The cars engine felt alright for its age, of course, it was still cold but as a first impression it's not bad! It doesn't take long before Louis overtakes me and blasts off. I honk and start driving home. I wouldn't want to stress the engine too much since I didn't have a complete check up done yet.

Tomorrow I'll give her some love!

Maybe you can fall for one of those Nigerian Prince scams and he takes all your money so you can no longer afford payments on the BMW. having to make ends meet with the ~$30k you had stashed in another account. $25k of which you promptly spend on a car.

Small spoiler alert, but I was thinking slammed off the road during an unfair touge battle or scammed during a street race and forced to pay big bucks because I would be killed otherwise.
