***Test Drivers Needed*** $50 PER ENTRY (08/28/12 - 09/02/12)

I am working on an indexed timing system for the BNB Autocross Tournament, I need help from everyone that is willing to participate in some testing to help me gather some data. (What is an indexed timing system? Here is an example) My hope is that using the data, I can come up with something that allows a wide variety of cars to compete in the Autocross tournament on a relatively level playing field, regardless of different levels of tuning.

Car: Any car (BNB cars not required) tuned to A class or below. Only restriction is no Forza Aero.

-Event List
-North American Autocross A class (7th row, 5th column from the right)
-Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca



I NEED DATA FOR ALL CAR CLASSES A CLASS AND BELOW. You can run and post results from different cars as many times as you are willing to. Tuned cars or stock cars, Whatever you want to try and run. Try and run both though, I could use the data. Try and share a time from as clean a lap as you can, if you go off and do donuts in the dirt, the time isnt going to be very representative of a decent run!

I am only using the data to analyze and try and create a balanced indexing system, so it is important that you do your best, but don't worry about huge time differences. having a nice time spread across different classes is good for this exercise!

I may be up for helping out. I have an autocross a class ek9 I can use. Is that ok?

You can use any car you want as long as it doesnt have forza aero. Feel free to test many cars, from any classes A and below.

All I ask is that you post in the format that I specified so I can dump it all into a spreadsheet and do some maths.

I advise to add torque to the list as well, some engines use a low KW, high Nm power band.
If this isn't taken into the list it could be exploited.

I'm making more mistakes because I'm getting tired.
Getting harder to make clean runs. Good night for now, I'll do some more tomorrow.
I'll also try to do some runs in Auto-X tuned cars. I don't have one but I'll tune them.

regarding fastest times.....each gate missed is a 5 second penalty. I am basically subtracting the penalty time from your posted time and using that, and using whichever time posted is fastest.

If someone comes along and posts 20 missed gates, they aren't even trying to race the course as intended. I think less than 5 missed gates is a good enough effort to estimate a clean time.

noooo no no, just for this test spreadsheet, thinking best case scenario here. when competition happens, we will have photo submissions and penalties. Although with such a long course, 5 seconds is really harsh. The club I ran with (the one I am borrowing this index system from) it was a 2 second penalty for knocking a cone over.


TRK regarding your question about cars not tuned for autocross....if the test spreadsheet keeps growing, we will see what the outliers are, and see if we need to add more restrictions. I left this test pretty much open so we can exercise almost every option you can think of and see what happens.

The goal is NOT to hit any cones and be as fast as possible.
At least that's what I aim to do :]

Do you have any cars in particular that you want to have tested?

Anything you can think of really that hasnt been tested. Perhaps some common BNB cars, or some D-B class stuff that is lightly modified. The actual tournament will be BNB cars only, so it would be good to have some results that reflect what would likely be entered.


So far I am liking the results, the classes are somewhat mixed up but of course A class is more towards the top, F class is at the bottom as expected. With more practice I wouldn't be surprised if I could make some of those slower cars rise up in the ranks a few places.

The indexed results have me re-thinking how to configure my Mustang, or if I should buy another car.

I'll use the Vauxhall I had before I sold it.

I also use a Cosworth and others I can think of.

I added your latest FRS time to the list.

Whats interesting is to see the couple FRS' in the index ratings. the Leadfoot Tuned FRS is basically hurt by all its upgrades from that standpoint, even though the times are very similar. It could go faster, I only did 1 or 2 runs with it, but not enough to drop 3 seconds faster I dont think

This weekend is when I am going to start looking at tweaking the index multipliers a little bit. I think I am going to make them not quite as drastic, I don't want people getting discouraged when their index time is 4-5 seconds slower than the actual time. If that's your dedicated car, that is a huge margin to have to overcome, when you really may be beating people in raw times. Its one thing to have these multipliers on a course that's about 45 seconds long, its another when we are in the 2-3 minute range and the results change more drastically. On the other side of the coin, the index timing does let you compete even if you don't have a fully built car or are a few classes behind everyone, which is pretty cool.

When I make the changes, they will be on another sheet so you can flip back and forth to see how things were adjusted.

The other option is to just add a 2 second FRS penalty to everything LOLOLOLOL
